"95 out of 100...The 2005 Alonso del Yerro "Maria" was aged for 18 months sur-lie with batonnage. It too has a brooding perfume but is a bit more layered, forward, and immediately pleasurable. There is plenty of ripe tannin and a 60+ second finish. Give it 5-7 years of cellaring and drink it through 2025. Vinedos Alonso del Yerro was purchased in 2002 and Stephane Derenoncourt was hired on as consultant. Malolactic fermentation was in new French oak followed by aging sur-lie for 12 months with batonnage." - WA
"90(+?) out of 100...Dark purple. Deep cherry-cola, anise and espresso aromas, with suave vanilla and floral nuances. Chewy dark fruit flavors are complicated by graphite, violet pastille and succulent herbs. A bit clenched on the powerful finish but this has impressive concentration and energy." - Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar
"78 out of 100...Tobacco, cola and game flavors mingle in this light-bodied yet rather tough red." - WS
