"(91-93) out of 100....This wine exhibits a saturated ruby color with purple nuances. Additionally, it is rich, with lots of extract, tannin, and body. The 1996 Barolo Brunate's dark ruby color is followed by aromas of Chinese black tea, pepper, earth, and cherries. Ripe, full-bodied, and structured, with excellent depth, a sweet mid-palate, and a firm finish, this wine requires moderate patience. Anticipated maturity: 2003-2016." - WA
"88 out of 100...Aromas of ripe fruit, porcini and light vanilla follow through to a medium- to full-bodied palate, with chewy tannins and an oaky aftertaste of coffee and berry. Still a bit austere. Disappointing. Too much new wood?--1996 Piedmont retrospective. Best after 2007." - WS
