"94 out of 100...One of the dark horses of the flight despite 1998 being a great Right Bank vintage. A deep garnet hue. The nose is paradoxically intense but somehow compact and coiled up with scents of minerals, black cherries, cassis and oyster shells. Great definition and tension though. The palate is very well balanced with a firm structure, fine, grainy tannins and a firm grip. Blackberry dominating the precocious, persistent finish with a touch of plum on the aftertaste. Immense potential. Ignore this wine at your peril! Drink 2015-2045. Tasted September 2007." - Neal Martin, Wine Journal
"90 out of 100...Mushrooms, tobacco and sweet berries on the nose. Full-bodied, with soft and round-textured tannins and lovely fruit. Tannins in the back of the palate will hold this for many years to come, but I would drink it. '88/'98 Bordeaux retrospective (2008). Drink now. 7,500 cases made." - WS
"87 out of 100...Made in an elegant, restrained, subtle but interesting style, the dark ruby-colored 1998 Canon offers a sweet nose of crushed stones intertwined with flowers, red and black fruits, and moderate tannin. An attractive, charming, mid-weight effort, it will be at its finest between 2002-2015." - WA
